A Portrait and Figurative Exhibition

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: AUGUST 12th!
Open to all New Mexico Artists

This exhibition will be part of Portrait and Figure Month, held at the New Mexico Art League in October, 2011, in order to promote, enhance and foster an understanding of the practice, techniques and applications of traditional fine art portraiture and figurative works. The show will include two categories, Aspiring Artists and Professional Artists.

                                       About the judge

Sherrie McGraw has been at the forefront of the American Art scene for over thirty years. Currently, she teaches workshops throughout the country. She gives lectures and demonstrations for art institutions such as the Portrait Society of America, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and the Art Students League of NY to name a few. Her work has been shown in major institutions including the Gilcrease Museum, the Tucson Museum and others. She is the author of the highly acclaimed book, The Language of Drawing, which has received world wide attention and can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art bookstore in NY. She is presently writing a book on painting.

About the juror

Having degrees in Education, English Literature, and Special Education, Barbara Lohbeck founded and directed the Bardean Gallery, an active community center for artists. Once established, she turned her attention to creating the largest art exhibition in the state, Masterworks, which grew out of the Bardean Gallery, the Rio Grande Art Association, The New Mexico Watercolor Society and the Pastel Society of New Mexico.  She has served on the Albuquerque City Public Arts Board 2002 - 2010, from 2002-2010, serving as VP in 2008 and 2009. She is now President of the Board of Arts in the Schools, serving as a member since 2004. She has judged shows such as the NM State Fair Professional Show 2003, and the Non-Professional Show in 2008 and the Emerging Artists Show, PSNM in 2002.
